ARF News - The Basic Necessities: Water, Toilets, Privacy |
Basic for you, yes? Well, not for many young ladies in the rural villages of Africa. The toilets are open and almost public. No doors, no privacy and no washing facilities of any kind.
At the Mkokozi School, population 624, there are two latrines. Over at the edge of the school yard is a cement structure with two rooms or stalls divided by a crumbling wall. In the middle of each of these two stalls is a hole in the floor.
